Teaching Your Kids to Care for Their Teeth

It is a must that parents teach their children the importance of dental health care.  It really should start at a young age, but it is never too late to start teaching something that can impact their long-term health and well-being.

If your kids are anything like mine, taking the time to brush their teeth is as afterthought and really their least favorite thing to do. When my son was little we had a chore chart, and that was one of his chores that he received an award for.  Well now that he is almost 7, we have moved onto to bigger chores, and brushing is a responsibility.  But he still wishes he got rewarded for brushing.

One thing to help your child be a better brusher and take care of their teeth is to teach them about their teeth.  Help them understand how many teeth they have, what they are for and how each one has a different function.  Explain to them why taking care of their teeth on a daily basis is what will keep their smile intact and beautiful.

Here is a simple guide to help you! Healthy Dental Habits Queen Creek AZ 85142

Incisors:  There are 8 total!  Four on top and four on the bottom, and they are in the front of the mouth.  They have a chisel shape to make cutting food simple.

Canines:  The canines are located next to the incisors, and there are four of them, two on each side.  They are pointed so you can tear food.

Premolars:  Your child will have eight premolars and they are located between the canines and molars.  Their job is to crush and tear food.

Molars:  The molars are located at the back of the mouth, four on each side.  They have a very wide surface for grinding food.  Healthy Dental Habits Queen Creek AZ 85142
